AB 309, authored by Assemblymember Alex Lee, is off to the Governor’s desk after passing in the Assembly. 

In celebration of Latino Heritage Month, Assemblymember Alex Lee honored Latino community leaders alongside co-host Alameda County District 2 Supervisor Elisa Márquez. 

Following a hearing by the Senate Appropriations Committee, six of Assemblymember Alex Lee’s legislation are headed to the Senate Floor.

“I’m proud to see that our bills are progressing through the legislature,” Lee said. “These bills will bring meaningful impacts to California’s housing development, traffic safety, environmental justice and beyond.” 

AB 309, a bill to establish social housing in California authored by Assemblymember Alex Lee, passed out of the Senate Appropriations Committee on Sept. 1, 2023 and is now headed to the Senate Floor. 

Assemblymember Alex Lee has secured $1 million from this fiscal year’s state budget for Fremont’s multi-use community center at Central Park, which will be a state-of-the-art facility with spaces for community events and programs, alongside health and wellness activities. 

A bill to mitigate excess light pollution is advancing through the legislature. AB 38 would reduce night lighting, or Artificial Light at Night (ALAN), in state buildings to protect wildlife, human health and reduce energy consumption. 

A bill to improve pedestrian, cyclist, and driver safety is making its way to the Senate Committee on Appropriations. AB 413, authored by Assemblymember Alex Lee, was voted 13-2 in the Senate Committee on Transportation earlier this month.  

AB 309, a bill to establish social housing in California authored by Assemblymember Alex Lee, passed out of the Senate Committee on Governance and Finance by a vote of 5-2 and is now headed to the Senate Committee on Appropriations.

AB 309 to establish Social Housing in California passed off of the Assembly Floor with over a supermajority of votes and is now headed to the Senate. The final vote was 55-16.

In 2018, California ranked 49th among the United States in housing units per resident, and it’s estimated that an additional 180,000 new units of housing would need to be built each year to meet demand.
