6 Bills Head to Senate Floor

Following a hearing by the Senate Appropriations Committee, six of Assemblymember Alex Lee’s legislation are headed to the Senate Floor.

“I’m proud to see that our bills are progressing through the legislature,” Lee said. “These bills will bring meaningful impacts to California’s housing development, traffic safety, environmental justice and beyond.” 

The Social Housing Act Advances To the Senate Floor

AB 309, a bill to establish social housing in California authored by Assemblymember Alex Lee, passed out of the Senate Appropriations Committee on Sept. 1, 2023 and is now headed to the Senate Floor.

Bill to Establish Social Housing Passes off the Assembly Floor

AB 309 to establish Social Housing in California passed off of the Assembly Floor with over a supermajority of votes and is now headed to the Senate. The final vote was 55-16.

In 2018, California ranked 49th among the United States in housing units per resident, and it’s estimated that an additional 180,000 new units of housing would need to be built each year to meet demand.
