Assemblymember Alex Lee Recognizes 2025 Youth Art Contest Winners

Assemblymember Alex Lee hosted his 2025 Youth Art Contest themed Riding Future Transit. Students from K-12 residing in the district participated in the contest, and the winners recently had the opportunity to visit the California State Capitol.

Below are the winners’ artwork:

Amanda Chen, 9th grade, Mission San José High School

Amanda Chen believes that technology will create more efficient, safe and sustainable public transportation systems. Their artwork depicts a futuristic flying vehicle's interior with passengers surveying a gold cityscape. Passengers aboard the craft — including men, women, children, elderly, people with disabilities, and artificial intelligence robots — watch and listen to the announcement of the next station. The art highlights our future transportation's inclusiveness and technological advancements.

Annie Yu, 9th grade, the Harker School

Annie Yu’s artwork showcases their hope for a future where transit and nature can coexist in harmony. It also represents their hope where we can walk to transit and see natural landscapes. Annie believes that technology has the power to make our public transportation more eco-friendly, passenger-friendly, and more.

Nayanica Mishra, 8th grade, Centerville Middle School

Nayanica Mishra hopes that more people will ride public transportation to reduce the number of cars on the road. Nayanica’s artwork showcases a flying bus that turns trash and pollution into fuel for flying, and the painting represents their imagination of our future’s clean vehicles.

Shihan Yan, 7th grade, Piedmont Middle School

Shihan Yan’s artwork illustrates a girl driving underwater in a glass car, showcasing their vision of how technology can allow us to travel through different environments and terrains in the future.

Helen Zhang, 6th grade, Valley Christian School

Image

Helen Zhang’s artwork depicts their vision of riding zero-emission high speed trains in the future. A young girl is peeking from the shadow into the future, which is brighter and greener than the past. She notices two trains driven by their favorite animals. The trains are each on a different level, saving space and preventing traffic jams. On the top level, a green creature that represents nature is cheerfully greeting the little girl with a lollipop in his hand. On the lower level, a hippo in business attire is waiting to board a train and birds are chirping playfully on the cables.

Ellaine Kim, 4th grade, Ruskin Elementary School

Image

Ellaine Kim envisions a future where trains are powered by alternative sources of energy, and their artwork illustrates a train that uses magnets to levitate above its track. It also features Ellaine’s belief that our future cities and transit may be located underwater.

Mia Zhang, 1st grade, Lila Bringhurst Elementary School

Mia Zhang believes that innovation is key to our future public transit system, and Mia’s artwork illustrates their dream future transit: the air balloon bus.
