Kaiser Permanente Redwood City's project for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. day of service was to clean up the gardens at Taft Elementary School in Redwood City. Two of the more distinguished gardeners helping Kaiser Permanente's 60 volunteers were Assemblymen Kevin Mullin, lef, and Marc Berman. Kaiser Permanente deems the MLK holiday a "day on, not off," working on service projects to improve our neighborhoods.

Calif. Assembly Speaker Rendon Announces 2017 Assembly Committee Assignments

SACRAMENTO, Calif. /— Today, Calif. Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) announced the members of Assembly committees. Among the changes this year, the number of women committee chairs has doubled under Speaker Rendon, and women hold membership on every committee. “With 80 members who have different interests and backgrounds and who represent diverse districts, putting together the Assembly Committee membership is an interesting challenge,” Rendon said.

After Gov. Jerry Brown warned of fiscal and political uncertainties in light of a new president and the state’s precarious budget leaning toward a nearly $1.6 billion deficit, San Mateo County lawmakers expressed caution while also urging momentum to address pertinent priorities like housing and transportation.

Brown unveiled his proposed $179.5 billion spending plan Tuesday, kicking off negotiations with legislators before the 2017-18 fiscal year budget is finalized in the coming months.
