Dear Friend,
Get ready for our second annual Youth Art Contest! I'm excited to invite students from our schools to participate in the upcoming contest themed "Riding Future Transit."
The buses and trains that crisscross the Bay Area are iconic, and key to fighting climate change. Gas-powered vehicles and other transportation contribute over 20% of energy-related greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S., representing the nation's largest source of carbon pollution. California will soon transition to zero-emission vehicles. More than likely, your future trips between school and home will be on these vehicles. What do YOU imagine riding the transit of the future to be like?
The Youth Art Contest is open to all K-12 students residing in my district, which includes Fremont, Milpitas, Newark, Northern San Jose, and Sunol. This is your chance to showcase your talent and vision.
Submitted artwork will be judged on participants' creativity and vision in illustrating the theme "Riding Future Transit." Please fill out the submission form by clicking the button below, and drop off or mail your artwork to my District Office at 1313 N. Milpitas Blvd Suite 255, Milpitas, CA 95035. Submissions will be accepted until Friday, February 21, 2025, at 5 p.m.
(Winning artwork of the inaugural Youth Art Contest themed "A Home for Everyone.")
We will showcase top submissions, and announce contest winners in Spring 2025. My office will provide further details about the event at a later date. Winners of the art contest will also be honored at the California State Assembly. Their artwork will be displayed in my Capitol Office for one year.
(Winners of the inaugural Youth Art Contest receive their certificates of recognition at the California State Assembly Floor. Here's a recap of the contest, and their visit to the State Capitol in Sacramento.)
I look forward to seeing your ideas of our shared future. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my District Office at (408) 262-2501 or email Angela.Pedrigal@asm.ca.gov.
Yours in Service,
Alex Lee
