Dear Friend,
In our first year, we passed 7 of our bills out of the Legislature, and held numerous events - both virtual and in-person. I'm excited to share with you some updates and upcoming events.
New Laws
Five of my authored bills were signed into law including bills reforming our justice system, making Milpitas and Berryessa BART stations safer, and protecting mobile home residents from unfair water charges. Learn more
While I was deeply disappointed AB 339 (to preserve the public's ability to participate in government meetings remotely) and AB 1444 (would have prohibited listing websites from charging restaurants fees unless the call resulted in a paid order) were vetoed, I'm proud of the progress made. I will never stop fighting for government transparency and our small businesses.
AB 339 - We're already seeing governments big and small adopt teleconferencing options for public comment on their own. Accessibility, transparency, and integrity of our democracy are core values of mine and I'm committed to continuing to modernize the way our government works for our constituents.
AB 1444 - Listing websites have ended the practice of charging restaurants commissions simply for connecting calls because of our bill. We know that small businesses are the lifeblood of our community, and with their narrow margins, it's important we do all we can to continue to protect them from unnecessary fees.
Since taking office in December 2020, our office has:

- Held 11 town halls

- Toured and met with 25+ organizations that serve residents in the district

We also celebrated the memory of Vivien Larsen, an Ohlone College Trustee and lifelong educator who passed away earlier this year.

Property Tax Postponement Program (PTP)
The State Controller's Office has an important program that may provide some relief for residents on their property taxes. The Property Tax Postponement (PTP) Program allows homeowners who are seniors - or who are blind or have a disability - to apply to defer current-year property taxes on their principal residence. Homeowners must meet certain criteria to qualify and applications for the 2021-22 tax year are available now. Learn more by visiting www.ptp.sco.ca.gov or calling (800) 952-5661.
Legislative Town Hall
If you missed our recent legislative town hall where I provided an update about the legislative session for the year including our bills that were signed into law, you can watch the recording here.
I hope to see you around in District 25 soon!
Yours in Service,
Alex Lee
