January 2022 Newsletter

Dear Friend,

From my family to yours, I wanted to wish you a Happy Lunar New Year/Tết if you celebrate! Wishing you love, hope, family, friendship and promises of brighter days in the year of the Tiger. This new year is roaring to a strong start.

The legislative session has started up again, and we are currently finalizing our legislative package for the year based on many of the priorities you shared through the survey. I'm excited to share more about our bills with you next month, and I'll also be hosting a Legislative Town Hall on February 24 at 6 p.m. RSVP here.

State Updates

The State has reached an agreement to ensure employees continue to have access to COVID-19 supplemental paid sick leave and restore tax credits for California businesses. The legislation also includes significant funding to bolster testing capacity, support front-line workers, and strengthen the health care system. The state's extended supplemental paid sick leave will be retroactive starting from January 1, 2022 and go into effect until September 30, 2022. Learn more.

Legislative Updates

Today, we're going to be taking up many of our bills on the Assembly floor including AB 854 (defense against displacement from real estate speculators) and AB 1400 (single-payer healthcare). You can see floor debates starting at 1 p.m. You can watch here.

Mortgage Support

Mortgage Relief

Mortgage relief is now available for California homeowners! California homeowners may be eligible for mortgage relief up to $80,000 in past-due mortgage payments.

Applications are now open, please visit the California Mortgage Relief Program.

Volunteer with Second Harvest

Second Harvest of Silicon Valley is in need of volunteers. The food bank offers various volunteer opportunities including sorting food in a warehouse, distributing food to the community or delivering food to homes. To learn more, you can email volunteerservices@shfb.org or call 408-266-8866.

Blood Shortage

The American Red Cross is facing a national blood crisis - its worst blood shortage in over a decade, posing a concerning risk to patient care. Amid this crisis, doctors have been forced to make difficult decisions about who receives blood transfusions and who will need to wait until more products become available. Blood and platelet donations are critically needed to help prevent further delays in vital medical treatments.

If you are able to donate, please consider visiting American Red Cross to find a blood drive location near you.
