Dear Friend,
The Republican federal government shutdown is about to enter its fifth week, and its devastating consequences are putting real families at risk. Without federal funding, CalFresh (federally known as SNAP) benefits are now delayed in November, and the federal regime is refusing to tap into emergency funds to help those who depend on this lifeline.
KQED: "CalFresh Benefits Will Be
‘Delayed' in November by Shutdown.
Here's What to Know"
Today, I'm writing to share that I and the Assembly Democrats are committed to delivering affordable food and a functioning government for the people. Just a few months ago, we approved $80 million in the state budget for food banks, funding that is now being fast-tracked by the Governor to assist in food distribution. We're acting with urgency, and I want you to know that there are resources for you to navigate these difficult times.
In the Bay Area, we're seeing small businesses step up to help CalFresh families. Local governments are deploying funding for food aid. Food banks are working around the clock, and you can visit this website or call 2-1-1 anytime to connect to local food and community services. Below are additional resources in Santa Clara and Alameda counties.
